Our mission
The core mission of the Chico USD Preschool Program is to provide an inclusive, high-quality, and developmentally appropriate early education program for eligible three-and four-year-old children. We strive to cultivate a safe, nurturing, and truly inclusive learning environment where every child feels a strong sense of belonging and all children feel empowered to reach their full potential. We are dedicated to utilizing inclusive practices that provide access to engaging learning opportunities for every child.
Our program aims to achieve this mission by focusing on a holistic and individualized approach that includes:
Fostering a Love of Learning: We don't just teach lessons; we ignite curiosity. Through play-based learning, hands-on exploration, and engaging activities, children discover that learning is a fun and exciting journey.
Social-Emotional Growth: This is the heart of preschool. Children learn vital life skills such as sharing, cooperation, empathy, following routines, and managing their emotions—all within a supportive peer group.
Kindergarten Readiness: Our curriculum subtly integrates pre-literacy (phonological awareness, letter recognition) and pre-numeracy (counting, sorting, pattern recognition) skills, ensuring your child develops the confidence and foundational knowledge needed for a smooth transition to kindergarten.
Safety and Nurturing Care: Your child's well-being is our top priority. Our high quality, experienced and caring educators and therapists are dedicated to providing a safe, predictable, and affirming space where every child feels seen, heard, and valued.
Individualized Student Support Services:
We are proud to offer excellent student support services right here at school to help every child succeed!

Speech and Language Therapy can be provided on-site during the school day. This means your child can receive help with things like communication, speaking clearly, and understanding language without leaving school.

Occupational Therapy (OT) is a key part of our classrooms. Our OT specialists work directly with your child in their class (we call this "push-in" support) to help them with skills needed for learning, such as handwriting, focus, managing their bodies, and participating in group activities.

We also have an amazing sensory gym! This is a dedicated, fun space that supports your child's individual sensory needs. The gym helps children regulate their emotions, improve body awareness, and feel calm and ready to learn.

We strive to offer a schedule that supports your family's needs:

Ages Served: The California State Preschool Program is for students who are three or four years old.

Hours of Operation: Monday through Friday, from 7:45 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
